Gowanus Rezoning Framework Released

Over the past 2 years, FUREE along with Fifth Avenue Committee, other community based organizations, businesses and local residents as part of the Gowanus Neighborhood Coalition for Justice (GNCJ) have engaged with the city on a plan to rezone the area around the Gowanus Canal, known as the Gowanus Places Planning Study. After a number of stakeholder meetings on such issues as housing, economic development, resiliency and sustainability, public realm, and arts and culture, the Department of City Planning has published their framework for the rezoning that may be approved as soon as next year.
