FUREE's in Pins and Needles - Member Spotlight Marilyn Charles

Members of Furee are in Pins & Needles: A Revolutionary Musical in Brooklyn!

A cast of 20 FUREE Members have been rehearsing since January with artists from the Foundry Theatre.  Our members have had an incredible experience using the arts - singing, dancing and acting - to give voice to issues like living wages and affordable housing.  But, don't take our word for it, hear it directly from them!

Bio

Hi, my name is Marilyn Charles Jeminez, in my community I am known as Lady Venus. I have been a member of FUREE since 2005. FUREE has helped people of low-income families by helping to change key issues in our communities, which enhances their quality of life. As a Child Care Provider Licensed by N.Y.C, along with other Providers, I have benefited greatly from FUREE.

Child care providers were forced to deal with egress problems, day care spaces, and wages and FUREE helped us. THANK YOU FUREE!

And now through FUREE, I am able to participate in the beautiful musical,  "Pins and Needles," headed by the Foundry Theatre. This musical is about the struggle of families and union workers in the changing society of yesterday, today and tomorrow which is perfectly relevant in our society.  It is a very powerful and entertaining musical, and I am happy such an entity can be brought to our community in a positive way.

As a single parent it gives me great pleasure to share this stage with my eldest son and other young men and women.  This musical allows me to network with some wonderful people and professionals in their fields of theatre.  The cast is all made up of members, people in the New York area, and is being trained by a master Musical Director, Mr. Richard Harper, Dymanic Choreographer, Ms. Camille A Brown and Ms. Francine Ott, Assistant Choreographer.  Keeping us in order are the PSM Ms. Heather Arnson and the FUREE Cultural Project Coordinator, Ms. Monica L. Williams.

Everyone shows such patience and love along with their continued leadership.  We are looking forward for great success with this up coming musical.
